A Morning on the Riverwalk

The best part of living on the water isn't the view from the window — it's the half hour before the day really begins, when the promenade belongs to the early risers.

Step out the riverwalk gate just after sunrise and the path is yours. The ferry hasn't run yet, the cafés are still pulling their first shots, and the water sits flat enough to mirror the sky. It's the quietest the district gets, and the most generous.

Start With Coffee

Three cafés sit within a short walk, and each rewards a slightly different morning. Tidewater Roasters opens first and pours the most serious cup. Marsh & Maple is the one for a slow sit with a pastry and the paper. The Ferry House, a few minutes further, is worth the extra block when you want a window on the water.

The trick is to walk first and decide later — let the morning pick the café.

Then Walk the Loop

From the gate, the promenade runs a full mile to Heron Point and back. It's flat, shaded in the right places, and lined with benches for the days you'd rather sit than stride. Most residents make the loop a habit within a week of moving in.

By the time you're back, the ferry's running and the district has woken up. But you'll have had the best of it already — and you didn't have to drive anywhere to find it.
